Liv Morgan Surprised WWE Let Her Star in Major Horror Film

Liv Morgan has long been one of WWE’s most dynamic performers — and now she’s set to showcase her talent in a completely new arena: a major motion picture.

The former Women’s World Champion recently opened up about her role in the upcoming Japanese horror movie Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, revealing that she was genuinely shocked that WWE allowed her to take the part. The film — directed by acclaimed filmmaker Takashi Miike — invited Morgan to step far outside her comfort zone and explore a dramatically different kind of performance than anything she’s done in the ring.

🎬 From WWE Superstar to Movie Actress

Morgan had been off WWE television for much of last year as she recovered from a shoulder injury. When invited to audition for the film, she didn’t expect to land the part — but she did, and it changed her perspective on what was possible beyond wrestling.

In a candid conversation on the What’s Your Story? podcast with Stephanie McMahon, Morgan described her reaction when she first told WWE officials about the movie opportunity — particularly when she asked Triple H (WWE’s Chief Content Officer) if it was something they supported:

“I was shocked that WWE let me do it. I remember asking Hunter, ‘Do you like this for me?’ He said, ‘If I didn’t think it would be good, I wouldn’t let you do it.’ He gave me some advice because he had done films himself, and said, ‘Just go for it.’ So I did.” — Liv Morgan

📍 Filming in Japan

Morgan traveled to Japan for 17 days of filming, immersing herself in a role that she says is unlike anything WWE fans have ever seen her play. She emphasized that her experience in wrestling — with its rigorous physical and performance demands — helped prepare her for the challenge.

“I got to play this character that is so different than anything I’ve ever done. The WWE Universe is going to see a new side of me — something I don’t think they’ve expected. It was such an amazing experience.” — Liv Morgan

🌟 A New Chapter for Morgan

This film role marks one of Morgan’s most significant acting opportunities yet. While wrestling remains her primary focus, she has steadily built up on-screen acting credits, including roles in TV and film prior to this project.

Now that filming is complete, Morgan is expected to return fully to WWE programming, with plans suggesting she will play a major part in WWE’s WrestleMania 42 narrative after a long injury layoff.
