Dodgers Land Top Free Agent in Four-Year, $240M Contract
Kyle Tucker, one of MLB’s most elite outfielders and the top free agent on the market this offseason, has agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sources told ESPN and The Athletic. The contract includes opt-out clauses after the second and third seasons.
After intense interest from other contenders — including the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays — the Dodgers ultimately won the bidding war for Tucker, adding his bat and defensive talent to an already star-studded lineup.
What This Means for the Dodgers
Los Angeles, the two-time defending World Series champions, continue to reinforce their roster for another title run in 2026. Tucker is expected to slot in as an everyday right fielder, joining a lineup that already includes superstar bats such as Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, and others.
While positional adjustments may occur — including the possibility of moving Teoscar Hernández within the outfield — manager Dave Roberts has emphasized flexibility and competitive balance as key factors in shaping the club’s roster.

Tucker’s Track Record
Tucker, who will turn 29 years old, has compiled an impressive MLB resume:
Four-time All-Star (2022–2025)
Career batting average around .273 with 147 home runs, 490 RBIs, and 119 stolen bases over 769 games before the deal
Gold Glove (2022) and Silver Slugger honors
Consistently ranked among the top position players in baseball in WAR and production since 2021
He spent his early career with the Houston Astros, before spending the 2025 season with the Chicago Cubs after being traded last offseason.
Dodgers’ Free Agency Strategy
The Dodgers have been active this offseason, preferring not to overhaul their roster but instead add elite talent where needed. Tucker’s signing, along with the earlier acquisition of closer Edwin Díaz, underscores the team’s intent to remain at the top of the sport and compete for a three-peat World Series championship in 2026.
With his blend of power, speed, and defensive skill, Tucker is seen as a game-changer who elevates the Dodgers’ offensive depth and championship odds.
